For a few years, Bill and I have heard about all the bald eagles near the Conowingo Dam in northeastern Maryland. Yesterday, we finally got a chance to check them out. It was impressive site. We saw at least 10 different adult bald eagles, plus several juveniles. Apparently there are numerous eagles in the area from October through March.
This juvenile bald eagle caught a gizzard shad in the Susquehanna River – and then flew over to a nearby branch to enjoy his meal.
Watching eagles flying in flight is always amazing. This pair made several passes over our heads before settling down in the trees.
Just before we left, we spotted this bald eagle sitting in one of the trees.
The Conowingo Dam is located on Rt. 1 where it crosses the Susquehanna River between Darlington and Conowingo in Harford County. The public, including photographers, have great access to the river from Conowingo Fisherman’s Park on Shures Landing Road in Darlington. Plenty of parking, boat ramps, and heated restrooms!
For more info about the eagles at Conowingo Dam, visit the Conowingo Dam Site Guide prepared by the Harford Bird Club.
Yesterday may have been our first visit to the Conowingo Dam, it certainly won’t be our last.
What a thrill! Lucky you. And wonderful shots.
I subscribed to your feed, look forward to postings.
Let me know how you like WordPress. I’m toying with the idea of changing one of our branch blogs to it or using it in another enterprise.
Best wishes,
Mary
Mary –
Thanks for subscribing to the feed. I’m hoping to get the next post up later in the week – tips on taking photos of holiday lights.
So far – I really like WordPress. This is my first attempt at blogging and so far it’s been easy to use – and easy to find answers to my questions in the FAQ and forums.
Glad you like the photos
Patty
