For a few years, Bill and I have heard about all the bald eagles near the Conowingo Dam in northeastern Maryland. Yesterday, we finally got a chance to check them out. It was impressive site. We saw at least 10 different adult bald eagles, plus several juveniles. Apparently there are numerous eagles in the area from October through March.

This juvenile bald eagle caught a gizzard shad in the Susquehanna River – and then flew over to a nearby branch to enjoy his meal.

Watching eagles flying in flight is always amazing. This pair made several passes over our heads before settling down in the trees.

Just before we left, we spotted this bald eagle sitting in one of the trees.

The Conowingo Dam is located on Rt. 1 where it crosses the Susquehanna River between Darlington and Conowingo in Harford County. The public, including photographers, have great access to the river from Conowingo Fisherman’s Park on Shures Landing Road in Darlington. Plenty of parking, boat ramps, and heated restrooms!

Yesterday may have been our first visit to the Conowingo Dam, it certainly won’t be our last.
