Every year – in late summer and early fall – the dahlias start blooming in all the local gardens. They come in just about every color, shape and size you can imagine.
On a recent visit to Longwood Gardens, I photographed several spectacular varieties of dahlias. Here are a couple of my favorites.
The Taratahi Lilac Dahlia – developed in 1996 by John Frater. I loved the shape and color of these flowers.

And the Tomo Dahlia – developed in 1988. The white tips on the red/purple petals is very striking.
