Another wonderful place Bill and I have found for photographing fall color in Montgomery County, Maryland is at Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson. The mountain is owned by Stronghold, Inc and is open to the public daily from 8 AM until an hour before sunset.
A few years ago, I was able to photograph sunrise from the top of the mountain, looking east towards the Potomac River.

At the base of the mountain on Comus Road is one of the most peaceful ponds I’ve found. Each year, the trees around the pond light up with color – which is wonderful to photograph reflected in the still waters of the pond.

If you’re in the DC area looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy the colors of fall – Sugarloaf Mountain is just a short drive off of I-270. I’m sure we’ll end up there sometime this fall trying to photograph more spectacular scenes.
Hi, when would you say the best time is for viewing fall colors at Sugarloaf? Thanks, Amy
Amy
Usually fall color peaks at Sugarloaf in mid to late October.
Hope this helps
Patty
The lake (I don’t know whether it has a name) at the foot hill of Sugarloaf is so beautiful surrounded by these autumn colors
