Last weekend I headed up to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. I was really feeling the need to photograph some flowers. My trip coincided with their annual Orchid Extravaganza and their first Winter Blues Festival which meant in addition to the thousands of orchids on display, there were several types of blue flowers on display in the Orangary. I spent the day happily doing close up photographs of flowers, using my macro lens and extension tubes. I thought I’d share a few of my photos from the trip with you today in case you need to see some beautiful flowers as much as I did.

I took the trip to Longwood with members of my Meetup Group – the DC Area Flower Safari. We head out about once a month to local gardens (within 125 miles of DC) to photograph flowers. You don’t have to be a serious photographer to join the group or have the latest gear to join the group. We have people photographing with everything from DSLRs to Smart phones. In fact, you don’t even have to bring a camera of any sort to our meetups. You just need to love seeing beautiful flowers and like hanging out with people who like to photograph flowers. We’d love to have you join us at one of our meetups. You can learn more about the DC Area Flower Safari on meetup at https://www.meetup.com/DC-Area-Flower-Safari/
