This is another photograph in my series of  flowers photographed as portraits with custom backgrounds designed to highlight what I see as the personality of the flowers. For this zinnia, I wanted to emphasize the soft pinks in the petals and feeling of a heritage flower. The flower reminded me of a woman who loves vintage – clothing, home decor, etc – and is happy to quietly share her love of vintage and not worry about competing with all the women showing off their latest and greatest attire and trends.

Even More Spring Wildflowers

Even More Spring Wildflowers

Ok – so I’m giving up on trying to organize posts by type of flower – and will just do it by season at least for a while. There are lots of posts with just a few photos lined up – and at the rate I’m going – I may never get enough photos for an entire post dedicated to a specific type of flower.

So –  here are some of the wonderful spring wildflowers I’ve photographed over the years

In February 2020, I attended a workshop created by Marie Otero with figure model Ivory Flame. This image of Ivory Flame with a Fan of Feathers is just one of several incredible images I took at the workshop.

I’ve been very fortunate to work with Ivory Flame – a wonderful figure model – a couple of times. Here are some of my favorite photos from our sessions. As always – photographs created with models are always a collaboration of artists. So Thank You Ivory Flame for all your help in creating these images.

I created this still life with other participants at a workshop with Karen Burns and Marie Otero. We started out with the sewing tools – added what looked like a handmade stuffed rabbit carrying a butterfly net. And then we added the butterflies, and some flowers. Rearranged things more than a few times, to finally create this adorable scene. This was one of the workshops that has inspired me to create still life photographs of my own.
