Bleeding Hearts (Lamprocapnos spectabilis formerly classified as Dicentra spectabilis) are one of the flowers that just make me smile every time I see them at the local gardens. Native to Asia, these delicate heart-shaped flowers are some of the first perennials to bloom in the spring. In the DC area, the bleeding hearts bloom just as the tulips are finishing up their bloom. These are a few bleeding heart photos I took earlier this spring.
