Late summer/early fall at the local gardens means it’s dahlia time. Every year, I’m amazed at the spectacular dahlias I see on display. This Hollyhill Pinkie Dahlia caught my eye and I couldn’t stop photographing it. I loved the shape of the petals. The fact that they are white with a border of bold pink just made them that much more special.

When I saw this plum sunflower at the local market, I knew exactly how I wanted to photograph it. I wanted to share the details in the center and the wonderful combination of reds and yellows in the petals. This is one of the wonderful local flowers I photographed from Petal Patch Flower Farm.

One of the highlights of fall for flower lovers in the Washington DC area is the Chrysanthemum Show at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Every November, the Longwood Conservatory is filled with spectacular chrysanthemums. They usually have some large displays such as the 1000 bloom Chrysanthemum and the Chrysanthemum shields. These are always wonderful to see, but my favorite part of the show is taking close up photos of the mums.
I thought I’d share some of my photos from the 2018 Chrysanthemum show with you today.
I think Evening Glow and Vienna Waltz Chrysanthemums were my favorites this year. It’s always fun to see what new varieties Longwood Gardens puts on display during the annual Chrysanthemum show. I can’t wait to see next year’s show.
Do you have a favorite variety of chrysanthemum? If you do – can you let me know in the comments below so I can keep an eye out for them when I’m out photographing chrysanthemum.
One of my favorite flowers I’ve photographed recently are a set of Koppertone Dahlias at Longwood Gardens. They were planted along both sides of the Flower Garden Walk – and WOW were they amazing. I loved all the shades of color in these incredible dahlias.
And so now that I’ve posted my photos from this year’s dahlia show – is it time for next year’s Greater Philadelphia Dahlia Society Show? It’s usually at Longwood Gardens in late September 🙂
