This past Sunday I had a chance to see the 2018 American Dahlia Society National Show at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. I have never seen so many spectacular dahlias in one place at the same time. At first glance, the combination of colors and shapes was overwhelming. Once I started examining specific flowers, all of sudden it was easy to compose beautiful photographs. I thought I’d share some of my photos of these amazing dahlias with you today.

If you like dahlias, and ever have the chance to see one of the American Dahlia Society National shows, I highly recommend visiting it. You will see some amazing flowers. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out to see when the show comes back to this part of the country again.

As I’m working my way through the backlog of unedited photos on my hard drive (which could easily keep me busy for the rest of my life), I’ve found a few photos of flowers photographed in my studio that I haven’t shared. So I thought I’d share some of them here today

Last month I spent a wonderful morning at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, Virginia. I was there with the DC Area Flower Safari and I spent most of my time working with my lensbaby lenses. I bought the Lensbaby Velvet 56 earlier this year, and last month got a Burnside 35 to go with it. In addition, I’ve started using a Sony A7III camera. It’s a full frame camera which works better with the Burnside 35 than the cropped sensor camera I was using previously.
Here are a few of the photos I took getting to know my camera

Have you tried any of the Lensbaby lenses? if you have – which is your favorite?

I’ve recently added a new photo – Petals of an Amanda Dahlia to my website at https://beautifulflowerpictures.com/store/dahliaamandapetals/
Dahlias are some of my favorite flowers to photograph. I particularly like the dahlias with white and purple petals – so of course, I had to buy and photograph this lovely Amanda Dahlia.
This photograph is available matted to 11 X 14 for $ 54.00 and matted to 16 X 20 for $ 109.00

Just from the name alone – Peaches and Dreams – I knew I’d love these dahlias. And then I got them into my studio. As I photographed the petals, I kept being reminded of how the mountain ridges overlap from certain viewpoints along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
To get the depth of field I wanted for this photo, I combined 11 images using focus stacking software to create my final image
