Dazzling Dahlias 2017 part 2

Dazzling Dahlias 2017 part 2

In early September I had a chance to visit Longwood Gardens for the annual Dahlia Show presented by the Greater Philadelphia Dahlia Society. I love photographing flowers at this show – there are always hundreds of spectacular dahlias at peak bloom to photograph. I thought I’d share a few of my photos from the show with you today.

I’ve recently added a new photo – Pink & Yellow Dahlia – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website

Dahlia are some of my favorite flowers to photograph in my studio. When I found this pink & yellow dahlia at the market, I knew I had to bring it home and photograph it in my studio. I tried to capture all the wonderful shades of pink and yellow in my photograph so I could share them with you.

Dazzling Dahlias

Dazzling Dahlias

A few weeks ago, I visited Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania with the DC Flower Safari Meetup Group for the Greater Philadelphia Dahlia Society Show. My guess is there were several hundred dahlias on display in the competition room – and this year the conditions were wonderful for photographing them. So I thought I’d share some of my favorite dahlia photos from the show with you today.

If you’re in the greater DC area and like to photograph flowers, I’d like to invite you to join the DC Flower Safari Meetup Group. We head out monthly to photograph flowers at local gardens. Our members photograph with everything from smart phones to the latest high end cameras. I’m not sure yet where we’ll be photographing on October 21 (October is always a tough month). We’ll be heading back to Longwood Gardens on November 12 to photograph the Chrysanthemum Festival, and again on December 10 to photograph their Christmas at Longwood Gardens display. The DC Flower Safari also has two groups on Facebook – one for sharing photos and the other for sharing information about what is blooming at local gardens.

You can join the DC Flower Safari  on meetup at https://www.meetup.com/DC-Area-Flower-Safari/

Zinnias – In the Studio

Zinnias – In the Studio

I recently photographed some brightly colored zinnias in my studio. Some people consider zinnias to be an old-fashioned flower but what I saw was all sorts of textures and patterns in the petals as I photographed them.

I’ve recently added a new photo – Teddy Bear Gerbera Daisy – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website

Gerbera daisies are some of my favorite flowers to photograph in my studio. The Teddy Bear Gerberas have slightly different centers than the standard gerberas, so somthing a little different but still fun to photograph. As I photographed this flower I tried to capture the shapes and the contast between the red and cream on the top and bottoms of the petals .
