When I think if irises, I think about Bearded Irises, Siberian irises, Flag irises and the little dwarf irises I see in the early spring. It turns out that gladiolus are members of the iris family too! So today I have photos of some beautiful Blue Flag Irises photographed at Mt Cuba Center and some wonderful Gladiolus photographed at a local farm and in my studio to share with you.

As I’ve been editing photos this spring – I found several older iris photos I hadn’t edited or shared. And then with the flowers starting to bloom here in the DC area – I was able to photograph some dwarf irises. I thought I’d share all my recently edited iris photos with you today.

A couple weeks ago, I spent a few hours photographing at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia. One of things I love about Lewis Ginter is their daffodils – in the spring they have so many beautiful daffodils throughout the gardens. The other great thing about Lewis Ginter is that it is about 100 miles south of Washington DC so spring arrives a couple of weeks earlier there than it does here.
It seems like every year, just as I’m about to go crazy from what feels like a never-ending winter – I start seeing photos of spring flowers taken at Lewis Ginter. And I decide I need to make a quick trip to Richmond.
This year I photographed daffodils, grape hyacinths and dwarf irises on my early spring visit.

I’m sure I’ll be back photographing at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden again soon. But I wanted to share this wonderful taste of spring with you in case you are in as much need of spring as I am

I’ve recently added a new photograph – Siberian Iris Pair – to my website at https://beautifulflowerpictures.com/store/siberian-iris-pair/

Siberian irises are some of my favorite flowers. With the dark purple flowers, I love seeing the contrast between the purple and yellow in the petals. As I photographed this pair of irises, I loved how I could capture the not only the complementary shades of purple and yellow but also the fascinating structure of these wonderful flowers.
This photograph is available matted to 11 X 14 for $ 54 or 16 X 20 for $ 109.
