In recent years I’ve photographed several hibiscus blossoms that have Wind as part of their name. After doing a little research, I discovered that they are all part of a series of hibiscus plants known as the “Tradewinds Tropical Hibiscus” plants developed by Aris Horticulture. Their botanical name is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. They are known for their abundant flowers and their ability to grow in containers that are 6″ or larger.
I love seeing all the colors in the various Tradewinds Hibiscuses I’ve photographed – here are some of them to brighten your day.

I’ve seen signs for a few more hibicuses in the Tradewinds series at local gardens – all I have to do now is catch them when they are blooming. If I do – I’ll be sure to share more photos of them.

One of my favorite hibiscuses to photograph is the Night Fire Hibiscus. A tropical hibiscus, Night Fire is known for it’s showy red and purple blossoms. Like other tropical hibiscuses, Night Fire prefers to grow in full sun – often reaching 6 feet tall. They are hardy in the United States from Zone 10b through 9a – which means those of us in the mid-Atlantic region need to find them in botanical gardens – or head south to find them outdoors.

I love seeing the big beautiful blossoms on the tropical hibiscus plants. Here in the DC area – they can’t overwinter – so I usually see them indoors in the various botanical gardens. Two of my favorite varieties of the tropical hibiscus plants are Jason and Sunny Wind – both have big bright yellow blossoms. I’ve taken many photos of both varieties over the years – thought I’d share some of them with you today.

I’ve recently added a new photo – Jason Hibiscus – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
I love hibiscuses. They are one of my favorite flowers to photograph since they have a unique shape. With their large petals and stamens that stick straight out – hibiscuses have a three dimensional structure that few other flowers have. And this makes them great fun to photograph! I love trying to convey the sense of depth of the blossoms, while still preserving the fascinating details of the flowers. This Jason Hibiscus caught my eye as I was visiting a local garden. Between the bright yellow petals and stunning red center, I knew I had to photograph it!
This photograph is available as a 10 X 10″ or 20 X 20″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Jason Hibiscus from my website.
