Pink & White Peony – New Photo

Peonies are one of the those flowers that have a very shoot blooming period. But when they do bloom, they are some of the most spectacular flowers in the garden. This pink and white petals on this peony are some of the most beautiful I’ve seen. And then the surprise splash of red in the center just adds to it’s beauty.

I used my Lensbaby Velvet 56 lens for this photograph to capture the delicate softness of the petals

When I saw this beautiful white peony at a local garden, I was fascinated by the overlapping curves of the petals and the little bits of red along a few petals at the center. My hope with this photo is to share the sense of wonder I felt as I studied the flower with you.

Peonies at the New York Botanical Garden V

Without a doubt, one of the highlights of my May trip was seeing the peonies at the New York Botanical Garden! I had no idea that they had a peony collection at the NYBG, much less that the flowers would be in full bloom for my visit.

The peony collection is formally known as the Matelich Anniversary Peony Collection, which features more than 150 varieties of peonies. As early as 1916, peonies were on display at the NYBG. By the 1940’s there were many peonies planted near the conservatory. Eventually the peonies were moved to their current location along the Perennial Garden Way. It was most recently expanded in 2015 when it was doubled in size.

These are the last of the my peony photos from the New York Botanical Garden – I really hope to see them again. I’d love to photograph more of the 150 varieties of peonies they have at the NYBG!
