Akebono Tulip © 2016 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Akebono Tulip – to the shop on my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
When i saw the Akebono Tulips at a local garden, I knew I had to photograph them. I spent close to 45 minutes sitting on the ground trying to capture these amazing flowers in the bright sunlight. This ended up being my favorite image, it really shows both the bright shades of red and yellow in the tulip, and its wonderful structure.
Akebono Tulip is available as a matted print on my website.

Antigua Carnations © 2016 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Antigua Carnations – to the shop on my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I’ve always thought of carnations as those flowers that you get to match your dress/your date’s tie when you’re attending your high school prom in the 1970s. And since I’ve never seen them growing in the DC area, I hadn’t photographed any carnations. And then late last year, I spotted some Viana carnations at my local floral wholesaler – and discovered a new way to look at carnations. Instead of those flowers that looked artificially colored – I suddenly was seeing flowers with amazing patterns along the edges of the petals – and knew that bunched together would provide some wonderful photographic opportunities. As I photographed several sets of carnations, I realized I was creating some amazing abstract photos by focusing in on the textures and patterns in the carnations. This is one of my favorite photos of some pink and white Antigua carnations

Song of Norway Iris © 2016 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Song of Norway Iris – to the shop on my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I love bearded irises. When I first saw the Song of Norway Iris I thought it was one of most beautiful irises I’ve ever seen. There was something about the shade of purle, the bit of white and the way the sun was highlighting it that I loved. And then I realized there were wonderful yellow tulips behind it – which just added a nice complementary color to the scene.

Purple Pansies © 2016 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photograph – Purple Pansies – to my web store.
I love seeing and photographing pansies at local gardens. There is something about their blossoms that makes me smile. I’m sure part of it is that seeing pansies means spring is here and I’m back outside photographing hopefully on a warm sunny day. I loved this pair of pansies with all the shades of purple, a bit of yellow and a few splashes of white. I hope this photo makes you smile as much as I smiled when I saw them earlier this year

Pink Sweet Peas © 2016 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Pink Sweet Peas – to the shop on my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
When I saw these wonderful pink sweet peas at my local florist, I knew I had to bring them home to photograph in my studio. The petals were so delicate – like fluffy pink ruffles. I’ve tried to share the sense of delicate fluffiness I saw in the flowers in my photo.

Paloma Rose © 2016 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Paloma Rose – to the shop on my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I love photographing roses – and trying to show the delicate beauty of the center of a rose. In this photo, I cropped the photo show overlapping layers of petals. The red edges of the petals helps define the layers and petals.
Paloma Rose is available as a matted print on my website.
