I’ve recently added a new photo –  Water Lily Leaves – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

I usually photograph water lilies several times a year at gardens in the DC area. And when I do – I usually compose my photos with one of the water lily blossoms as the main subject of the photo. One day while photographing the flowers I happened to notice the wonderful patterns and textures in the leaves of the water liles and started photographing them. The more I looked at the leaves, the more fascinated I was by the combination of colors – bright green in the center surrounded by yellow green with dark brown patches on the leaves edged with a red brown trim. How could I not photograph them? and then share this wonderfully different view of water lilies with you.

Water Lily Leaves is available as a matted print on my website. It available in two sizes – matted to 11X14 inches or matted to 16X20 inches.

I’ve recently added a new photo –  Pink and Yellow Tulips  – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

One of the flowers that shouts springtime in the DC area are the tulips. They usually bloom in mid-April and bloom through the beginning of May. Several of the local gardens plants extensive tulip displays – so I always look forward to several days of photographing tulips each spring. This year, my favorite tulips were a bed of pink and yellow tulip. As I looked at them – they were so bright and cheerful – I couldn’t help but smile. In my photo I tried to capture the sense of the tulip bed going on forever – with a few tulips in the front in sharp focus and the rest fading into the background a bit out of focus.

I’ve recently added a new photo – Wisteria and Azaleas – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

When I think about springtime in the south, I picture landscapes filled with wisteria, azaleas, spanish moss and dogwoods in my mind. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to explore Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia – and see scenes even more wonderful than I’d envisioned. In this particular area of the cemetery I could see lush azalea bushes with wonderful pink blossoms. The wisteria vines wound through the azalea bushes with their clusters of purple flowers contrasting with the pink of the azaleas. The azaleas and wisteria were kept in check and off the graves by one of the wonderful wrought iron fences I kept seeing in Savannah. And in the background of the scene stood a live oak tree – covered with Spanish Moss. For me – this scene totally captures the beauty of spring in Savannah. I had a wonderful time visiting there this year – can’t wait to go back in the spring of 2016.

I’ve recently added a new photo – Siberian Iris – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

Siberian Irises are one of my favorite flowers to photograph at the local gardens in the spring. In the DC area, they usually bloom in May for a couple of weeks. For some reason, I never managed to get out to the local gardens to photograph them this year. So I was really glad I’d bought some and brought them into my studio earlier this year. As I adjusted the lights for this photo, I wanted to emphasize all the wonderful shades of purple in this delicate flower. The combination of the purple shades on the petals and sepals and the bright yellow patch is one of the best examples of complementary colors I’ve seen. I couldn’t resist photographing it

I’ve recently added a new photo – Lavender Parrot Tulips – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

As I’ve been photographing tulips in recent years, I’ve really fallen in love with the Parrot Tulips. I recently bought a bunch of Lavender Parrot Tulips at my local floral wholesaler and brought them into my studio. After photographing one of them as for a solo tulip photograph, I brought several of them together to see how they looked. I was amazed at all the colors and patterns that developed as a looked at the group of them – even more amazing than just the colors and patters in the single tulip. Each flower is unique and together they form a beautiful jumble of shades of soft pink, purple, yellow and green.

Lavender Parrot Tulips is available as a matted print on my website.

What can I say – other than WOW!!!!! When I saw the Star Campanella Roses at my local floral wholesaler I knew I had to get them and photograph them. The soft layers of yellow petals seem to go on forever. The more I looked at the details of this beautiful flower, the more patterns and textures I saw to photograph. For this photo, I chose to fill the frame with petals so as to share the wonder and beauty I saw in the rose with you.
