Fusion Gebera Daisy © 2015 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Fusion Gerbera Daisy – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I’m not sure what there is to say about the Fusion Gerbera Daisies – other than they are incredible bright orange flowers with yellow green centers. The intensity of the color in these daisies really stood out when I saw them at my local flower wholesaler and I knew as soon as I saw them that I had to photograph them. They’ve got everything I love about gerbera daisies – bold colors, big blossoms – and a look that just makes me smile 🙂

Texas Bluebonnets © 2015 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Texas Bluebonnets – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I’ve always heard the the bluebonnets are spectacular in the spring in Texas and that every wildflower lover has to see them at least once. And despite the fact that my parents lived in Texas for 25 years, until last year, I’d never made it to Texas in the spring to see them. Last spring, I decided it was time to see them for myself. I spent a wonderful week based in Austin – driving out each day in search of bluebonnets (and other wildflowers) to photograph. I found them – and they were magnificent.
This is one of my favorite photos that I took during the trip – a close up of the Texas Bluebonnets. I feel like it really gives the sense of what being in the middle of a group of bluebonnets is like, while showing the wonderful details of the individual flowers.
2014 may have been my first trip to Texas for the bluebonnets – but it certainly won’t be my last. I’m already thinking about going back next year 🙂

Blue Bigleaf Hydrangea Blossoms © 2014 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Blue Bigleaf Hydrangea Blossoms – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
When I saw this bigleaf hydrangea plant at a local garden – all I could think was “WOW!!! What amazing shades of blue and purple in the petals!!!” And that’s what I tried to capture with my photo – all the different shades of blue and purple, combined with the wonderful shapes of the petals – to say nothing of the wonderful drops of morning dew still on the blossoms. I see and photograph hydrangeas pretty regularly at local gardens – the colors in this one were particularly striking. I hope you enjoy seeing these wonderful shapes and colors as much as I do.

Green Chrysanthemum © 2014 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Green Chrysanthemum – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I love photographing chrysanthemums – with 13 classes of chrysanthemums – I’m always finding something new and wonderful to photograph. I found some wonderful green spider chrysanthemums at a local store – and when I saw them – I knew I had to photograph them in my studio. Not only were they a vibrant shade of green, but with all the curling and curving petals I knew they would make a great subject. In this photo, I tried to show both the tights curls and curves in the center of the flower – as well as the long lines of the petals once they open out.

Dogwood at the Ogle Cabin © 2014 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Dogwood at the Ogle Cabin – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I took this photo last April when I was visiting my favorite national park – the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I’ve always loved seeing the blooming dogwoods surrounding the old cabins in the park so capturing a photo of them was on my “want to photograph” list last year. One evening I drove over the Ogle Cabin along the Motor Nature Trail planning to photographing the cabin from the from with the blooming dogwood to the right of the cabin. But when I got there – I saw a totally different composition. When I saw the golden late afternoon light shining on the side of the cabin with shadows from surrounding trees – I knew I wanted to include that in my photo. After photographing from several different angles – this composition was the one that said Spring in the Smokies to me.
I still haven’t managed to capture a photo showing the front of the cabins with a blooming dogwood alongside – but there’s always a chance I’ll find that photo when I’m in the Smokies in April. 🙂

Bright Pink Gerbera Daisy © 2014 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Bright Pink Gerbera Daisy – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
I’ve always loved Gerbera Daisies – but until I started photographing them in my studio I wasn’t particularly happy with the photos I was taking of them in local gardens. Gerberas aren’t native to the DC area – sometimes they do well outdoors – but often they fade quickly and don’t rebloom. So when I decided to start photographing flowers in my studio, gerberas were among the first flowers I wanted to photograph.
I found a group of amazing bright pink gerbera daisies at a local grocery store – and brought them into the studio – and got out my macro lens. Finally – I could take a close up photo of the center of a gerbera daisy! I was able to capture all the wonderful colors and textures in the center, the shadows on the petals and all the other incredible details!!! For some reason, the center of this daisy reminded me of a little girl’s birthday party – with all sorts of wonderful bright colors and pink streamers. Maybe that was just because I finally taking the photo of a gerbera daisy I’ve always wanted to take 🙂
I know many of you like gerbera daisies as much as I do, so I hope you enjoy all my new photos of gerbera daisies taken in my studio.
