Lotus Blossom V © 2011 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Lotus Blossom V – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
This is the second of two new lotus blossom photographs I created this year after visiting Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington DC. When I spotted this pair of lotus blossoms in a small garden near the visitor center, I knew I had to photograph them. I loved the way the two flowers were both fully open, with one above the other. It let me show the amazing shape of the blossoms – and the varying shades of pink in each petal. It also allowed me to share the wonderful bright yellow seed pods – which are often hard to see when you view the lotus blossoms from the side. You can see all of my Lotus Blossom photos in the Lotus Gallery on my website.
This photograph is available as either a 15 X 12″ or 26 X 20″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Lotus Blossom V from my website.

Lotus Blossom IV © 2011 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Lotus Blossom IV – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
This is the first of two new lotus blossom photographs I created this year after visiting Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in Washington DC. I photograph the lotuses at Kenilworth at least a few times each summer. On every visit – I try to find a new angle to photograph the lotuses from – or to show something I haven’t shown before in my photos. What caught my eye with this blossom was how the pink petals were nestled in the curve of the lotus leaf. I also loved the way the sun was shining through the petals highlighting all the ribs and other details. You can see all of my Lotus Blossom photos in the Lotus Gallery on my website.
This photograph is available as either a 8 X 18″ or 14X30 gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Lotus Blossom IV from my website.

Texas Blanketflower © 2011 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Texas Blanketflower – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
In May I was invited to Texas to photograph wildflowers on some private property one of my friends knew about. There were over 600 acres of woods, streams, fields and wildflowers. As you can imagine I spent a few wonderful days photographing there. One of the most common wildflowers in bloom was Blanketflowers – Gaillardia pulchella. I love the bright colors of these wild asters. They are related to the Arizona Sun Blanket Flowers I photographed a few years ago.
This photograph is available as either a 10X10″ or 20X20″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Texas Blanketflower from my website.

Blue Mystique Orchid – Center Detail (c) 2011 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Blue Mystique Orchid – Center Detail – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
Blue Mystique is one of the newest orchids available. Introduced earlier this year – the Blue Mystique orchids start out as white orchids – and then the blue color is infused into the orchids. They seem to be getting a mixed reaction from orchid fans – many of whom view them as artificial. I found the center of this orchid to be absolutely fascinating – multiple shades of blue, bright yellow, and spots! I knew as soon as I took a close look at this amazing flower that I was going to do my best to get a photo of the center details.
This photograph is available as either a 12X15″ or 20X26″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Blue Mystique Orchid – Center Detail from my website.

Small Purple Fringed Orchid (c) 2011 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo –Small Purple Fringed Orchid – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
When I’m out photographing wildflowers, I always keep my eye out for native orchids. I don’t know what it is about them – but I really enjoy photographing them. Last spring, I was driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway and spotted a couple of splashed of purple along the side of the road. So I pulled over and was absolutely amazed to see that I had found some Small Purple Fringed Orchids (Platanthera psycodes). It was the first time I’d ever seen them in person – and I just loved the texture and shape of the flowers. They reminded me of tiny dolls dancing in the wind. After I photographed the first set – I spotted (and photographed) several other sets of the Small Purple Fringed Orchids. I’d love to find more of the native orchids to photograph – so I’ll be keeping my eye out for them as I’m photographing this spring and summer.
This photograph is available as either a 10X10″ or 20X20″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Small Purple Fringed Orchid from my website.
