I am so excited!!! If you’re reading this on Friday morning, I’m home in Bethesda waiting for the first copies of my book, Wildflower Meditations: A Gift for the Spirit to arrive!!!
Like many photographers, I’ve had the dream of publishing a book of my photos for a while now. But now with the help and encouragement of my friends and family, Wildflower Meditations is a reality.
The more I spend time in nature photographing wildflowers, the calmer and more peaceful I feel. I’m so inspired by the beauty I’m seeing. I also find inspiration in the words of writers ranging from the Buddha to Rachel Carson. So I’ve included some of my favorite inspirational quotations in the book along with my wildflower photographs.
The book includes ninety pairs of photographs and quotations – enough for you to consider one a day for an entire season. Wildflower Meditations: A Gift for the Spirit will start shipping on March 9. Order before March 21 (the first day of Spring) and receive three of my wildflower notecards as my special gift to you.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, last night was the longest night of the year and today is the first day of winter. For me, this time of year is one when I spend way too much time indoors at the computer – and nowhere nearly enough time outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature. Something about the cold, the snow and not very many flowers to photograph!!
Winter can also be a very peaceful time to spend time in nature. When I’ve spent time at Chincoteague or in the Smokies at this time of year, it’s so quiet that I feel like I have the place to myself. It’s a wonderful time to see familiar places in a completely new way.
To share the incredible beauty and sense of peace that I find in nature at all times of the year, I’ve created a new video – Peaceful Beauty – for you. It features some of the amazing sites I’ve seen in National Parks and Wildlife Refuges in the past few years. The soundtrack for the video is Pamela Bruner’s “Dona Nobis Pacem” from her On Christmas Morn CD.
As 2011 comes to a close, my hope is that you have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year.
I don’t know about you – but I’m starting to get in the holiday spirit. I visited Longwood Gardens last week and saw some amazing holiday displays. And for me – in December – the flowers I love to photograph are pointsettias.
