I just wanted to let you know that I have created a new video called Wildflowers. It features several of my wildflower photographs and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s “On The Wings of Song”  performed by the wonderful harpist (and my friend) Pamela Bruner.

If you like Pamela’s music – be sure to check out her CD’s on her website – PamelaBrunerMusic.com. On the Wings of Song can be found on her Classical Reverie CD.

I hope you enjoy the video.

American Dogwood – September 2010 Photo of the Month

American Dogwood - Cornus FloridaAmerican Dogwood

Dogwoods are one of my favorite spring flowers. This past spring, I photographed several different types of dogwoods in hopes of finally having a photograph of white dogwood blossoms to share with you. With this pair of blossoms, I was able to take the photograph I’ve been wanting to create – the simple white blossoms, the green and yellow centers against a dark background of the woods. I hope you enjoy this photograph of the dogwood blossoms as much as I do.

Until September 30, 2010, SAVE 20% off the regular prices for American Dogwood. The photograph is available through my website in two sizes of gallery-wrapped canvases.

Introducing A Daily Moment of Beauty

I just wanted to  let you know about a new email publication I’ll be launching on September 1. It’s called A Daily Moment of Beauty.

Very simply – it’s going to consist of an email that arrives in your inbox each morning with one of my photographs in it. It might be a flower, a sunrise, a river or some other moment in nature. Some of the times when I’m feeling the most relaxed and the most at peace are when I’m out photographing in nature – be it in a garden or in a National Park. I’m hoping to allow you to experience these same wonderful feelings when you start your day with a Moment of Beauty.

Wouldn’t you love to start your day with a photograph that helps relax and inspire you?

If you would – then please consider sign up for my Daily Moment of Beauty emails – and starting in September you’ll receive a nature photograph from me every morning.  A Daily Moment of Beauty is my gift to you – there will never be a charge for subscribed to this email publication.

Turk’s Cap Lily – July 2010 Photo of the Month

Turk's Cap Lily - lilium superbum

Turk’s Cap Lily (c) 2009 Patty Hankins

Last summer I spent a week photographing wildflowers along the Blue Ridge Parkway and at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was my first opportunity to photograph the summer-blooming mountain wildflowers. I knew that one of the flowers I really wanted to get a great photograph of was the Turk’s Cap Lily.

So during my trip I took several hundred photos of Turk’s Cap Lilies. This one is my favorite. I love the way the flower stands out against the dark background of the trees behind it. I really wanted to show off the green star in the center of the Turk’s Cap Lily. I photographed this wildflower on the trail to the Fryingpan Mountain Lookout Tower on the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville, North Carolina.

Until July 31, 2010, SAVE 20% off the regular prices for Turk’s Cap Lily. The photograph is available through my website in two sizes of gallery-wrapped canvases.

Save $ 10 on the 10X10″ Canvas – regular price $ 49 – July Photo of the Month Price – $ 39.00

Save $ $ 70 on the 20X20″ Canvas – regular price $ 349 – July Photo of the Month Price – $ 279.00

Think About It! Hosted by Sylvia Henderson – I’m Going to be on TV with my Flower Photos!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I was recently interviewed about my flower photography by Sylvia Henderson of Think About It! Think About It!  is a personal development and community interest talk show that airs on Montgomery Municipal Cable Channel 16 in Montgomery County Maryland.

I had a wonderful time visiting with Sylvia and doing her show. We talked about photography, places to photograph and why I photograph flowers the way I do.

The first showing of the 30 minute interview will be at 10 PM tonight Monday June 14 on MMC-16. It will reair on Jun 15 at 7 PM, and June 17 at 8:30 PM. Since I don’t have cable TV – I’m going to have to wait to get a copy of the show once it airs. Once I get the DVD, I’ll post a copy of the show to my website so any who doesn’t live in Montgomery County is able to see the show
