I’ve just added twelve new photographs to our Hankins-Lawrence Images website.
The new photos include two flower photos – a Zowie Zinnia and a Passion Flower.

In addition to the new flowers, there are several landscapes. Most are from Maryland, including Sunrise at the Docks from Havre De Grace.

There is also one new landscape photograph from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.

Over the weekend, I heard from Andy Smith of visualrealia who is organizing the Photowalk in Gettysburg PA next Sunday, September 14.
With Andy’s permission – here is his email with all the info.
The countdown begins!
Sunday, September 14th
10:00 AM

We’re now roughly a week away from the Gettysburg Photowalk. I appreciate everyone’s interest, and hope that your schedule allows you to attend. We’re being covered by Chris Little of the regional magazine, Celebrate Gettysburg, an article by The Evening Sun’s Jess Krout, and we’ll have some welcome bags from the very helpful Gettysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Some suggestions to think about:
If you haven’t joined the Flickr (www.flickr.com) group that we’ll use to enjoy our photographs afterward, take a minute or two to do so. Flickr’s a free service, and pretty painless to join. Once you have an account, visit and join our group at: http://www.flickr.com/groups/gettysburgphotowalk/
Consider printing the custom map for the walk, available on the “Path” page of our main site, or directly here http://www.visualrealia.com/VR_Photowalks/The_Path_files/WalkMap1.pdf
It should print nicely on one page in landscape orientation. The map locates ten of the more historical points of interest on our walk, as well as parking lots and the parking garage.
Parking info is detailed on the site’s (www.vrphotowalks.com) “Directions” page.
The map will also be helpful if you decide to walk a different pace than the group, ambush us with water balloons or take a shortcut.
Related to the map, the “Path” page has more than a dozen links to more info on some of the places we’ll pass. Read up on the sites, and pretend you know stuff about them!
Did I mention joining the Flickr group? 😉
Consider your camera and supplies like batteries, storage, etc. Remember, anything’s fine, from a disposable camera to the most complex SLR. It’s not a competition for most impressive camera. I know I wouldn’t win!
I’ve made it a standard accessory to carry some kind of paper and pen to jot down notes. You may wish to note some reminders about the scenes, particularly if you have as bad a memory as I do!
I’ve always thought it would be great to know a little about the other walkers. While you’ll get to talk to some, you probably won’t meet everyone. At the start of our walk, I hope to take a group photograph and have an info sheet for some basic info, if you’re willing to share. Just simple stuff; name, town and state, and web site address if you have one. (Blog, photosharing page, family web site, etc.)
After the event, I’ll post names and location (not addresses!) for fun, as well as links to any personal sites you may wish to share. I’ll also email it to those of us on the email list.
A note regarding weather… There’s not necessarily a “correct” answer regarding weather cancellations. I haven’t found a way to perfectly predict rain, and there will always be people who can’t reschedule. If the weather calls for light rain, we’ll probably try to hold the event. If the weather forecasters seem positive we’ll have long, drenching storms and we really need to cancel, I’ll try to do so the night before and post it on the site, as well as emailing you via this email list. Cross your fingers.
Feel free to email if you have any questions. See you Sunday the 14th at 10:00 AM!
Andy
It’s not too late to invite some friends. The more, the merrier. More photos to share!

Bill and I have returned home after a weeklong photo trip. We’d hoped to post a few posts to our blog while we were on the road – but things just didn’t work out the way we’d planned.
Black Bears at Cades Cove (c) 2008 William Lawrence
We had a wonderful trip, photographing a variety of subjects in several southern states.
Meigs Falls (c) 2008 Patty Hankins
We also found a few great places to eat.
We plan on resuming our regular blog posting schedule this week. We’ll be posting lots of photos from the trip in the coming weeks, along with information on some of the places we photographed.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the first two photos from trip – a black bear mother and cub at Cades Cove and Meigs Falls – both photos were taken in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
