Photos from the Road

I used to do a lot of traveling and photographing. For many places, I really don’t have enough photo to do separate blog posts – so thought I’d start combining photos from various places into a series of photos from the road. Hope you enjoy seeing the scenes from some of my travels.

I’m excited to share another of my palladium-toned kallitypes with you

The grave of Jennie Stevens Westcott in the Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery, Edisto Island, South Carolina.

This photograph is printed using the late 19th-century photographing printing process known as Kallityping. The emulsion is hand-painted onto the paper, exposed with a negative under bright lights, and toned with palladium. Each print from a negative is slightly different – so these are one of a kind images.

The photographs are printed on 8 X 10″ Bergger 100% Cotton Cot 320 paper. They are matted to 11 X 14″ in a white acid-free mat.

A Few Photos from the Beach

A Few Photos from the Beach

On my recent trip to South Carolina and Georgia, I spent some time photographing on a couple of beaches. Even though it was a bit chilly and windy – I still had a wonderful time – there’s always something wonderful about being on the beach even in January.

Sheldon Church Ruins, Yemansee, South Carolina

Another place I made a return visit to on my recent trip to Georgia and South Carolina was the ruins of Sheldon Church in Yemansee, South Carolina. It’s a fabulous place to photograph so I always try to stop by when I’m in the area.

Sheldon Church, originally known as the Prince William’s Parish Church, has a long history. Originally built in the 1750s, it was burned by the British during the Revolutionary War. Rebuilt in the 1820s, it was severely damaged during the Civil War. Some reports state the church was burned in 1865 by General Sherman. Other reports state is wasn’t burnt – just severely damaged.
