A few more photos from my ongoing efforts to create interesting still lifes in my studio
In mid-July, I got some wonderful local flowers from Plantmasters and created some “Summer Fun” Still life photos

I spent a fair amount of time photographing still lifes in my studio in July. Here are the first of the still lifes I created last month.

A few days after I created the previous still lifes, I headed back into the studio – this time with dessert and some tulips from the grocery store.

And then I bought some amazing bouquets of flowers from The Petal Patch Flower Farm – and had a wonderful time photographing them.

Kitty Dusty wants to make sure everyone knows how helpful she is when I’m photographing in the studio. Not only is she an experienced supervisor, but she is also willing to step in and arrange things if I don’t have them set up correctly!

I think this is enough still lifes for one post. I’ve spent several more sessions in the studio since I took these, I’ll be sharing more of my still life photos soon.

As I’m continuing to explore still life photography, I’ve decided I’ll just do a post a month with my still life photos from the preceeding month. That way – I make sure to edit what I’ve taken and can see where I still need to do some work on arranging and lighting. These are the still lifes I created in June 2018

I’m continuing to explore still life photography. Most of my set up seems to involve fruits and vegetables – which means I can eat them after I photograph them. These are a few still lifes I created in May
These wonderful asparagus were in my first week’s FarmShare basket from Bending Bridge Farms in Fort Loudon, PA. We’re lucky – they have a pick-up site in our neighborhood so I’ll be getting farm fresh fruits and vegetables all summer.

One Saturday in May I spent the afternoon photographing still lifes in my studio. I started out with some vegetables from my local farmer’s market

I applied a texture from Nadeen Flynn to this image in Photoshop to add a bit of color and depth to the background.
And then I set up a still life with flowers from Sunnyside Flowers at the Farmer’s Market, a tea pot and cup, my new summer hat and a cute little cat sculpture

I learned a couple of good lessons that afternoon in the studio:
- it’s not easy to line up tomatoes for a still life and have them look good, and
- I really should let the backdrop hang loose for a while or steam it to get the wrinkles out!
But even with a few flaws in some of the photos – overall I’m pretty happy with the photos I took that afternoon.

I thought I’d share the last few still life photos I took at a wonderful Food & Still Life photography workshop with Karen Burns and Marie Otero last month.
