I hope this newsletter finds all of you and your friends and families doing well.
I’m still here in Bethesda staying at home. April is usually one of my favorite times of the year for photographing. There are wildflowers blooming in the parks and tulips blooming in the gardens. And chances are, this year I’m not going to get to photograph any of them.
I’ve put together a new video – Tulip Time – with some of my favorite tulip photographs – to remind all of us of the beauty in the world. My photos are accompanied by a Medley of Voices of Springs Waltz by J. Strauss
Like many other small businesses, I have been figuring out how to adapt to these new and different times we’re living in. I have suspended in person workshops and events through May 30.
My “Do You Need Help Editing Your Photos” sessions have gone virtual. This is a chance for you to learn how Bill and I approach editing, and we’ll show you how we would edit one of your photos in Lightroom and Photoshop. Virtual sessions are limited to 4 people. There is no charge to attend. As I schedule sessions, I let people who have expressed interest in attending know when we have an opening. If you’d like to join the list to attend one of our virtual sessions, just drop me a note at Patty@Hankins.net and let me know.
Bill and I are both available for individual instruction and consultation on using your camera, photo editing (Lightroom and Photoshop) and printing. We can also help with theartistic side of your photography, including seeing, capturing your vision, and how to edit to match your vision. For the foreseeable future, sessions will be held virtually. The fee is $75.00/hour for individual instruction. If you’d like more information about individual instruction or would like to schedule a session, just drop me a note at Patty@Hankins.net and we’ll find a time to talk.
I hope this blog post finds all of you and your friends and families doing well.
I’m here in Bethesda, practicing social distancing, dreaming of photographing flowers. But if things get as bad as they are likely too with COVID-19 virus, it’s going to be a while before any of us are back out visiting gardens and photographing flowers.
I’ve put together a new video – The Beauty of Spring – with some of photos of some of my favorite early blooming spring flowers – to remind all of us of the beauty in the world. My photos are accompanied by Spring from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, I have cancelled this year’s Gardens of Philadelphia workshop. Based on current news accounts, I doubt the gardens will reopen by early May. We are carefully monitoring the news from CDC, state and local health departments and will be making decisions about our Lightroom and Photoshop workshops in the coming weeks.
It’s hard to believe that it’s almost the end of 2018. As I look back, I’ve had a wonderful year and have so much to be grateful for. I often say that I have the best job in the world – not only do I get to spend my time photographing flowers, landscapes as still lifes, but I also get to talk with people about photography, nature, flowers, beautiful landscapes and wonderful places.
I’ve put together a new video for you this holiday season – Peaceful Beauty 2018. It has some of my favorite photographs that I edited this year accompanied Mozart’s Sonata 16 Allegro.
As 2018 comes to a close, I’d like to thank you for all your support and encouragement of me this year. It has meant the world to me.
I’d also like to wish you and all your friends and families a very safe, peaceful and wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year.
I don’t know how the weather has been where you live, but it has been hot, humid and raining here in the DC area. So rather than photographing outdoors, I’ve been spending time photographing in my studio and editing up photos I took earlier in the year.
As I was looking at some of my favorite photos of flowers photographed in my studio, I felt a sense of peace and started to relax. I decided to share them with you today in my new video, Beautiful Flowers. I hope it brings a smile to your face as you relax and enjoy a few moments of beauty.
The music accompanying my photos is Sonatina Op. 36 Allegretto by Muzio Clementi.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for spring. According to the calendar, spring arrived last week. But here in the DC area, I’m not sure Mother Nature has been paying attention. We had a warm February so we all thought it would be an early spring. And then March arrived with cold, rain, snow and wind.
So here it is, the last week in March and I’m still waiting for my daffodils to bloom. Maybe this will be the week it finally happens. While I’m still waiting for to feel like spring, I’ve put together a video with some of my favorite daffodil photographs to remind everyone (including me) just how wonderful they are. My photographs are accompanied by a Medley of Voices fo Spring Waltz by Johann Strauss.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my new daffodils video.
Last weekend I made my first trip to see the Christmas display at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. This year’s theme is french influences on the DuPont family. And as usual, the Christmas display is spectacular. I’m planning at least two more trips up to see and photograph it before it closes in early January.
In addition to all the themed decorations, there are several varieties of poinsettias on display. As I photographed them, I thought about all the wonderful poinsettias I’ve photographed at Longwood and other gardens over the years, and decided to create a video of some of my favorites to share with you. My photos in the video are accompanied by Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 17 in B Flat Major III.
