Summer’s Beauty – A New Video

Summer flowers always make me smile. Here in the DC area, summer means it’s time to photograph sunflowers, lotuses, black-eyed Susans, roses and hundreds of other types of flowers. When I’ve traveled during the summer in recent years I’ve photographed amazing wildflowers in places such as Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. I’ve put together a new video for you with some of my favorite photos of summer flowers.

The photographs in my video are accompanied by the wonderful harp music of Pamela Bruner. The soundtrack is Butterfly Jig from her Mist & Moonlight CD, available at PamelaBrunerMusic.com.

I hope you’ll enjoy a few minutes of beauty with some of the amazing summer flowers I’ve seen.

Lotuses, Sunflowers and More

I’ve had a few questions about where we’ll be photographing during my July 19-21 Capturing the Beauty of Nature: Photographing Flowers. The answer is – I’m not sure – it will depend on what locations have the best set of flowers in bloom that weekend. I’ve recorded this video to tell you about a few of my favorite places to photograph at in July. These are some of the places we may visit for our photography sessions during the workshop.

For more information about the workshop – or to register – visit my website. And remember – special early bird pricing ends on July 10.

Beautiful Tulips – My New Video

Tulips are one of my favorite spring flowers. I love seeing all the different colors and shapes in them at the local gardens. I’ve put together a new video for you with some of my favorite tulip photographs. My tulip photos are accompanied by the wonderful harp music of Pamela Bruner. The music for this video is Vivaldi’s "Spring and Winter" from the Four Seasons from her Classical Reverie CD.

If you enjoyed my tulip photos, I do have several of them available as gallery-wrapped canvases on my website

Capturing What You See

When people see my flower photographs at shows they often ask me – how do I get them to look the way they do? How do I know what to focus on? What to show in the photo? And what to leave out?

I recently recorded a video that walks you through an example of how I photographed some butterfly weed. In just a few minutes, I show you how I went from first spotting the flowers in the garden – to having a photograph that I’m happy to share.

What Catches Your Eye?

Sometimes when people see me out photographing, they ask me how I know when I’ve captured what I wanted in a photo. They’ll often see me try several compositions for a photo and then all of a sudden realize I’m done and ready to go look for something else.

Most of the time I do know which of the compositions I’ve photographed will be the one I share and often I even know which image I’ll be editing even before I download the photos from my camera. I know this because as I’ve composed my photo – I think about what it was that caught my eye as I looked at a scene. And by reviewing my photos in the field, I know I’ve got what I want.

I recently recorded a video that talks about how I use traditional photographic concepts to show what interested me as I took a photo and how I use them to share the beauty with others.

Peaceful Beauty 2012 – My Holiday Gift for You

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost the end of 2012. As I look back, I’ve had a wonderful year and have so much to be grateful for. I often say that I have the best job in the world – that I photograph flowers. And I really do mean it because not only do I get to spend my time in nature photographing but I also get to talk with people about photography, nature, flowers and national parks.

I’ve put together a new video for you this holiday season – Peaceful Beauty 2012. It has some of my favorite photographs that I took this year accompanied by the wonderful harp music of Pamela Bruner. The music for this video is “Simple Gifts” from her Sweet Spirit album.

As 2012 comes to a close, I’d like to thank you for all your support and encouragement of me this year. It has meant the world to me.

I’d also like to wish you and all your friends and families a very safe, peaceful and wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year.

Take care,
