Last week I took a couple of walks through Three Lakes Park in Richmond. On both trips, I photographed an absolutley fascinating berry. It had several bright red berries and a bright pink textured husk. I took several photographs of it – and had no idea on how to identify it. Fortuneately, a couple of my friends on twitter (scgardeningnews and lyndacd) were able to identify it as Hearts a Bursting or Strawberry Bush (Euonymus americanus).

The Hearts A Bursting was a fun find on my walk and I really appreciate the help from my twitter friends who provided the identification. I’ll post some of my other photos from Three Lakes Park in a few days.
Update: Jan 20, 2010 Gerry Wilkinson has some great information about Euonymus americanus on his US Wildflowers website.
Beautiful pictures there Patty!
Euonymus is a fantastic plant! The native European is also extremely beautiful.
