I’m excited to share a new series of photographs inspired by the self-portraits of Frida Kahlo with you today. What started as a response to a call for entries into an art show has developed into an ongoing series of photographs of women sharing how they see themselves in Frida Kahlo’s image. The common element in the series is a Frida Kahlo style headpiece I purchased on Etsy. From there, each model chose an outfit and props to work with. The series has been great fun to create and all the photographs are true collaborations between the models and me.
Two of the photographs in the series – Inspired by Frida – Blue RiverDream and Kitty Dusty and Inspired by Frida – Dakota Snow – will be on exhibit as part of the Inspired by Frida show at Artists & Makers Studios I, 11810 Parklawn Drive in Rockville, Maryland from December 7 – 22.
Artists & Makers Studios is holding Inspired by Friday Holiday Markets during the opening and closing receptions for the show. The opening reception and holiday market will be from 6 – 9 PM on Friday, December 7. The closing reception and holiday market will be held on December 22 from 10 AM – 4 PM.
I will be at both Holiday Markets with all the photographs in my Frida series, as well as calendars, books and notecards. I hope you’ll be able to join me at the Inspired by Frida Holiday Markets
And if you’re not in the DC area, the entire series is available on my website at https://beautifulflowerpictures.com/store/inspired-by-frida-kahlo-2/
For those of you who are familiar with my husband Bill Lawrence’s work – two of his tintypes will be in the show and he will also have a table at the Holiday Markets.
