While I was in Tennessee last month I spent some time photographing a mimosa tree. Also known as silk trees, Albizia julibrissin are native to southwestern Asia. They are invasive in many parts of the United States, and since they are very fertile trees, they are spreading throughout most of the country. They are known for their silk-like flowers in shades of red, pink and white.

As beautiful as they are, I’d rather see more native trees and shrubs blooming along the roadside than more mimosa trees.
