Another highlight from my recent visit to Longwood Gardens with the DC Flower Safari was the Poppy-Flowered Anemones. I’ve seen these photos before at Longwood. Last time I mainly photographed the flowers from above. This time I wanted to do something a little different.

Longwood Gardens has the Mona Lisa variety of Poppy-Flowered Anemones (anemnoe coronaria). These wonderful flowers are members of the genus Anemone – and native to the area around the Mediterranean Sea. They grow up to 18″ tall, generally with one flower atop each stalk.

I love the variety of colors of the Poppy-Flowered Anemone on display. Not only are the petals wonderful shades of pink, purple and white, but the centers are multi-colored and very textured as well.
