Winter is definitely here in the DC area – the skies are gray, lots of rain and temperatures in the 30s. It’s only December and I’m already looking forward to spring. I thought I’d share some of my pink tulip photos from last year just in case any of you are in as much need of a dose of spring as I am.

Just one question – is it spring yet? I’m ready to start photographing tulips again!
Hi Patty, no, it doesn’t seem to be Spring anywhere yet…. and I told someone the other day I wanted it to be the day after Labor Day again–just skip through the rest of Winter, slide on through Spring because it is so mercurial and teasing, ignore hot humid Summer altogether, and get on with the lovely trees of late summer and into beautiful Autumn colors and sweet weather. Clearly I’m not a beach lover… or I’d ask for 6 months of Summer, and I do love the new blossoms and new beginnings of Spring. But here we are not even half way through December yet, and already we’re wanting to move on and get to next year. I guess this proves we’re not skiers or winter sports enthusiasts either, although we can always choose to go visit snow where it lives and not invite it down to visit us…. Maybe you should check out the beautiful structures of bare branches and strong tree trunks and the fence rows of a slumbering Pennsylvania farm, or go back to those beautiful wildlife refuges on the Eastern Shore–or the California deserts such as Death Valley, even though you’d be trodding familiar ground… Or–is it time for a cruise to some lovely Caribbean islands… a whole ‘nuther bouquet awaits! Those pink tulips hit the spot this morning–we have sunshine here (Williamsburg) but it’s cold, and the tulips look like soft warm downy comforters to snuggle into for awhile.
