One Saturday in May I spent the afternoon photographing still lifes in my studio. I started out with some vegetables from my local farmer’s market

I applied a texture from Nadeen Flynn to this image in Photoshop to add a bit of color and depth to the background.

And then I set up a still life with flowers from Sunnyside Flowers at the Farmer’s Market, a tea pot and cup, my new summer hat and a cute little cat sculpture

I learned a couple of good lessons that afternoon in the studio:

  1. it’s not easy to line up tomatoes for a still life and have them look good, and
  2. I really should let the backdrop hang loose for a while or steam it to get the wrinkles out!

But even with a few flaws in some of the photos – overall I’m pretty happy with the photos I took that afternoon.
