Pink & Purple Columbine © 2013 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Pink & Purple Columbine – to my Beautifulflowerpictures.com website.
Each year in early May, Columbine blooms at the local botanical gardens in a rainbow of colors. I spotted this set of columbine in shades of pinks and purples after a morning rain – and knew I had to photograph it. I really liked seeing the water droplet on the end of the columbine bud.
This photograph is available as a 12 X 18″ or 20 X 30″ gallery-wrapped canvas. You can order Pink & Purple Columbine from my website.

I love Columbine (aquilegia)! It’s one of my favorite wildflowers. I’ve also grown to love the various cultivated varieties I see at the botanical gardens – the flowers come in so many wonderful combinations of colors.
I recently photographed some Swan Red and White Columbine. Like other columbines, Swan Red and White is a spring blooming perennial that grows in either sunny or partly sunny areas of your yard or garden.
I just loved the combination of the red and white in these stunning flowers

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing this wonderful columbine. I can’t wait to see the Eastern Columbine in the Smoky Mountains next month.
Do you a favorite variety of columbine? If you do – I’d love to hear which one it is.

Earlier this spring, I photographed two types of columbine (aquilegia) – McKana Group and Robin – at Longwood Gardens. While photographing, I was chatting with another photographer – who asked had I seen the columbine around the fountain? Apparently each year, the staff at Longwood Gardens plants columbine around the fountain at the center of the Flower Garden Walk.
When I made another visit to Longwood in early May, the fan columbine (McKana Group) was all around the center fountain. It was gorgeous.

There were so many color combinations in the flowers that I never did manage to photograph them all. Here are some of my favorites.

In addition to the wonderful Robin Columbine, I photographed several colors of columbine (aquilegia) from the McKana cultivator at Longwood Gardens. This type of columbine produces multiple colors of flowers on the same plant. Here are some of my photos of the Columbine from the McKana Group.

I’m hoping to get back up to Longwood Gardens soon – I’ve heard they usually have columbine flowers surrounding one of the fountains on the garden walk in the spring.
