Six Brand New Photos on my Website

I wanted you to be the first to hear that I’ve added six new photos to my website. I’ll be blogging about them in the weeks to come – but in the meantime – here they are if you’d like to take a look.

I’ve also brought back several of my older iris and tulip photos for a limited time. These returning favorites will be available until June 30. After that – they won’t be available again until next year when the tulips and irises are blooming.

Two of these returning favorites are my Beautiful Vision Iris photo and my Salmon Pearl Tulips photo. You can see them all at http://beautifulflowerpictures.com/store/returning-favorites/

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my latest photos.

Marvelous March Morning at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens

Marvelous March Morning at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens

Last week I spent a marvelous morning photographing at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia. I don’t get to Lewis Ginter as often as I’d like to (something about all the traffic on I-95) but when I do – I always have a wonderful time. Spring flowers bloom at least a week earlier in Richmond than they do in DC – so a trip in early March means I get to see and photograph spring flowers a little earlier than I would if I just stayed at home.

Here are a few of my photos from Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens from last week

Now that spring seems to finally be arriving in the DC area – I’ll be out photographing locally more often. And I’ll admit – I’m ready to be out photographing on a more regular basis 🙂

I’ve recently added a new photo – Iris Petals – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

I love Siberian Irises. Usually when I photograph them I’m trying to capture the beauty of a single flower – or perhaps a group of them. Recently, while photographing some Siberian Irises in my studio I suddenly saw the possibility of photographing just the petals and creating a more abstract photo. After trying several compositions, and multiple F-stops – this was my favorite photo of the petals of the Siberian Irises. I feel like the photos really brings out the variety of blues and purples in the petals – and the contrast of the bits of yellow in them. After photographing the petals – I took some photos of several of the blossoms pulled together – I’m still editing one of those – hope to have it available in the next month or so.

Iris Petals is available as a matted print on my website.

I’ve recently added a new photo – Siberian Iris – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.

Siberian Irises are one of my favorite flowers to photograph at the local gardens in the spring. In the DC area, they usually bloom in May for a couple of weeks. For some reason, I never managed to get out to the local gardens to photograph them this year. So I was really glad I’d bought some and brought them into my studio earlier this year. As I adjusted the lights for this photo, I wanted to emphasize all the wonderful shades of purple in this delicate flower. The combination of the purple shades on the petals and sepals and the bright yellow patch is one of the best examples of complementary colors I’ve seen. I couldn’t resist photographing it

I found the rest of my set of photos of irises that I took in January. I shared the first set of photos – the ones taken against the black background – some time ago. Finally – here’s the rest of the set photographed against a white backdrop.

With this set – I started out photographing just one flower – then added a second to the arrangement.

As I looked at the flowers I loved the way the petals looked against the white background – so I tried a few shots that were a little more abstract than I usually create.

And then finally I just grouped all the irises together and filled the frame with petals

I’d love to know what you think of the photos of just the petals and the ones where the bunch of blossoms fill the frame. Let me know in the comments below 🙂
