A Few Members of the Rose Family

Roses at Brookside Gardens

Over the weekend I spent some time photographing in the Rose Garden at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland. Even with the heat and the rain we’ve been having in the DC area, I found plenty to photograph. All these photos were taken with my Lensbaby Velvet 56 lens. I usually don’t talk about what gear I use to take my photos – but in this case, I choose to use my Lensbaby since I knew it would give me the nice soft out of focus backgrounds I wanted in my photos. It’s a whole lot easier to minimize flowers that aren’t in great shape when you can easily capture them in softer focus.

I thought I’d share a few of my photos from Brookside Gardens with you today.

Blush Parasol Spray Roses – In the Studio

Sharing a few more roses today – this time photos of a set of Blush Parasol Spray Roses I photographed. I loved the soft pink and yellows in these delicate flowers. When I seem them I think spring!

High Intensity Roses – In the Studio

Continuing sharing photos I’ve taken in the studio. Today I’m sharing photos of some incredibly bright yellow and orange high intensity roses. The colors in these were amazing – I actually had to desaturate the photos a bit – they didn’t look real as I’d originally photographed them!

Spray Roses

After I edited up the photos of the Paloma Roses I posted recently, I found a few more photos of roses I’d taken in my studio so I thought I’d share them with you today. Some of these are Babe Spray Roses, the others are from a mixed bunch. What I really like about photographing spray roses is that I can fill the frame with multiple flowers, often in different stages of blooming or different shades of the same colors.
