On my recent trip to Savannah, one of the cemeteries I photographed was Greenwich Cemetery. Established in 1933, Greenwich Cemetery is technically known as the Greenwich addition to Bonaventure Cemetery on the grounds of the old Greenwich Plantation.
Here are a few of the photos I took at Greenwich Cemetery.

One of the new-to-me sites I photographed at on my recent trip to Savannah was Majestic Oak. Like Angel Oak in Charleston, Majestic Oak is a spectacular live oak tree. No one is sure exactly how old Majestic Oak is – but estimates are it may be at over 300 years old.
Here are some of my photos of this spectacular tree.

I’m heading back to Savannah in a couple of weeks to finalize a few locations and details for my Springtime in the South: Savannah, Charleston and the South Carolina Low Country photo tour in March. As I was making my plans for the trip – I decided to go back and look at and edit up some of my photos from the afternoon I spent walking around and photographing in Savannah’s historic district. I had a great time doing that last March and look forward to spending more time wandering and photographing later this month and later in the spring during my photo tour.
Here are a few of the photos that capture what I saw on that wonderful afternoon in Savannah

I’m really looking forward to spending more time exploring in Savannah. I’ve still got a few spaces left in my March photo tour if you’d like to join me in exploring Savannah, Charleston and the South Carolina Low Country.

I’m busy planning my photography workshops for Spring 2016. I don’t have all the details in place yet – so haven’t opened registration yet – but did want to let you know the dates and locations where I’ll be teaching next year.

February 19 – 21, 2016 – Chincoteague, Virginia
Join me for a weekend of photographing at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague National Seashore. We’ll be photographing in the marshes and along the Atlantic shore – and we may even get to photograph some of Chincoteague’s famous ponies.

March 20 – 26, 2016 – Savannah, Charleston and the South Carolina Low Country
Join me for a week of photographing in some of the most beautiful cities in the South. Known for their stately homes in historic districts, magnificent gardens, and lush spanish moss-filled landscapes, Savannah, Charleston and the South Carolina Low Country are a photographer’s paradise in the spring.

April 17-22 – Spring in the Smokies
Join me for a week of photographing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (my favorite park) at my favorite time of year. The wildflowers will be blooming and water will be flowing in the stream beds and down the hillsides. There’s no place like the Smokies in the Spring.
All workshops include
- At least one photography session per day (most days will include two)
- Classroom discussions of the art & craft of photography
- One-on-one help with your photography
- A maximum of 6 participants in the workshop
I am taking names at this time of people who are interested in attending any (or all) of my spring 2016 workshops. Registration is limited to 6 participants per workshop. If you let me know now you are interested in one of my workshops, I’ll put you on the list of people who will be the first to receive the registration info for the workshops.

Wisteria & Azaleas © 2015 Patty Hankins
I’ve recently added a new photo – Wisteria and Azaleas – to my BeautifulFlowerPictures.com website.
When I think about springtime in the south, I picture landscapes filled with wisteria, azaleas, spanish moss and dogwoods in my mind. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to explore Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia – and see scenes even more wonderful than I’d envisioned. In this particular area of the cemetery I could see lush azalea bushes with wonderful pink blossoms. The wisteria vines wound through the azalea bushes with their clusters of purple flowers contrasting with the pink of the azaleas. The azaleas and wisteria were kept in check and off the graves by one of the wonderful wrought iron fences I kept seeing in Savannah. And in the background of the scene stood a live oak tree – covered with Spanish Moss. For me – this scene totally captures the beauty of spring in Savannah. I had a wonderful time visiting there this year – can’t wait to go back in the spring of 2016.
Wisteria and Azaleas is available as a matted print on my website.
