Asters are some of my favorite flowers – they come in so many wonderful colors and shapes. Here are a few photos of various asters that I’ve edited up but haven’t shared with you yet.
When I saw these wonderful sunflowers at a local farm stand, I knew I wanted to photograph them in close, showing the wonderful patterns in the center of the flowers and highlighting the bright sunny yellow in the petals.
This photograph is available matted to 11 X 14 for $ 54 or 16 X 20 for $ 109.
When I saw this plum sunflower at the local market, I knew exactly how I wanted to photograph it. I wanted to share the details in the center and the wonderful combination of reds and yellows in the petals. This is one of the wonderful local flowers I photographed from Petal Patch Flower Farm.

Here in the DC area mid-July usually means hot humid days. This year is no different than other years – our temperatures are rising into the 90s most days – and it’s very humid. So some of the flowers at local gardens aren’t coping well with the heat. Fortunately there are some flowers that seem to thrive in the summer heat. So I thought I’d share some photos of these summer blooming flowers with you this week.
First up are some lotus blossoms and leaves at Kenilworth Gardens.
I’ve also brought back several of my older rose and sunflower photos for a limited time. These returning favorites will be available until August 30. After that – they probably won’t be available again until next year when the roses and sunflowers are blooming again.
