And in case you didn’t get enough trillium photos the other day, here are a few more photos of one of my favorite spring wildflowers

Deep Rose Purple Trillium – Trillium grandiflorum deep rose trilllium – photographed at Mt. Cuba Center. I’m assuming these are a cultivar of the usual white Trillium grandiflorum. While those do turn pink once they are pollinated, it’s not this shade of pink. I can find no record of a native Deep Rose Purple Trillium in any of my wildflower books.

Trilliums are one of my favorite spring wildflowers – they come in so many wonderful shapes, colors, and forms. Here are a few of my Trillium photos I’ve edited recently.

I spent a wonderful day photographing at Longwood Gardens earlier this month. I’d gone up to Kennett Square in search of tulips. I was a little late for peak tulip bloom but I did find lots of flowers to photograph – including a few tulips. I shared a few of my photos earlier this week – here are the rest of my photos from a wonderful day at Longwood Gardens

Trilliums are some of my favorite wildflowers which also means I tend to take lots (and lots) of photos of trillium when I see it growing in the woods. I thought I’d share a few of the trillium photos that have piling up on my hard drive with you today 🙂

I’m not sure where these last three trilliums originated. I’ve never seen double trilliums in the wild. These were photographed at “wildflower gardens.” I chatted with the staff at one – who said that their best guess is these are hybrids someone developed and then planted in their gardens.

As I’ve been looking back at some of my unweeded photo sets on my hard drive, I realized that I have hundreds of unsorted, unedited photos of various types of trillium. I love seeing trillium in the woods in the spring, so I’m not sure why I’ve never looked closely at some of the photos I’ve taken of trillium. I’ve decided it’s time to sorting, weeding and editing some of them. So today I’m sharing some of my photos of Trillium Grandiflorum.
Trillium Grandiflorum, also known as white trillium, is one of the most commonly seen trillium in the spring in the Southeastern United States. Native to most of the Eastern half, Trillium grandiflorum grows in the woods in the spring, and can be so prolific that it seems to cover the hillsides. Once a trillium grandiflorum has been pollinated, the white petals turn pink. I’ve photographed Trillium grandiflorum in Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC.

As I was sorting through my Trillium grandiflorum photos, I did find one more photos of a Bent Trillium – trillium flexipes – that belongs in my last trillium post, but I’m just going to share it here rather than add it to an older post
