When I was in New York City not long ago, I saw (and photographed) some wonderful mosaics in the 34th Street/Penn Station Subway Station. It only took me a little research when I got home to learn what they were.
The work is called “The Garden of Circus Delights” by Eric Fischl. It was installed in the station in 2001 and is described as “a commuter being drawn into the bizarre and surprising world of the circus, meeting animals, clowns, acrobats and fire-breathers along his way to work.” Source: tfoi.com and nycsubway.org
You can see more photos of the Garden of Circus Delights on the NYC Subway Art Tour. And now that I’ve discovered the NYC Subway Art Tour -I’m going to have to do some exploring and planning before I next visit New York City.
